Membership

APHERP is a membership organization dedicated to exploring and effectuating research on higher education throughout the Asia Pacific Region.

Organized as a network, APHERP consists of three core institutions: the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology University; the Hong Kong Institute of Education; and in Honolulu the East-West Center working cooperatively with the University of Hawaii System. These cores provide coordination throughout the research partnership.

Most institutions are designated foundational members, with a smaller number of institutions in developing countries being designated as associate members. A fourth category, affiliate members, is reserved for quality assurance and accreditation bodies.

APHERP is enabled primarily by fees contributed by its members with these receiving benefits proportionate to the contributions produced.

 

Membership Scales and Benefit

Core Co-Principal Institutions (Annual Contribution–$30,000):
These institutions would receive all benefits provided by the proposed partnership as well as serving as the core administrative entities. Benefits include:
a) Receipt of monthly summary of key events taking place in Asia Pacific Higher Education—provided by web-link;
b) Participation in all subject matter specific webinars generated and conducted by partnership staff;
c) Organization role and central participation in annual scholarly meeting of partnership members;
d) Participate fully in the “virtual college” that will be developed to explore the substantive research and teaching interests of the research partnership.
e) Receipt of bi-monthly occasional papers written by internationally recognized scholars focused on issues of interest and concern to partnership members;
f) Identification as co-principal investigator on all partnership research grants with rights of participation in research funding and overhead recovery;
g) Membership on partnership steering committee and governing council;
h) Participation in all research-focused senior seminars and on-going research projects; association within partnership research network;
i) First rights of choosing for participation in annual or semi-annual higher education leadership institutes;
j) Branding identification in all partnership sponsored activities;
k) Opportunity to assign junior faculty and senior graduate students as research interns and to post-doctoral positions in partnership;

Foundational Members/Participants (both those qualifying through membership and as research funding participants) (Annual contribution: $9,500)

a) Receipt of monthly summary of key events taking place in Asia Pacific Higher Education—provided by web-link;
b) Participation in all subject matter specific webinars generated and conducted by partnership staff;
c) Organization role and central participation in annual scholarly meeting of partnership members;
d) Receipt of bi-monthly occasional papers written by internationally recognized scholars focused on issues of interest and concern to partnership members;
e) Identification as co-principal investigator on relevant partnership research grants;
f) Membership on governing council;
g) Rotational membership on steering committee
h) Full participation in the “virtual college” that will be developed to explore the substantive research and teaching interests of the partnership.
i) Selective participation in relevant research-focused senior seminars; involvement of interested faculty in partnership research teams and publications.
j) Participation in one higher education leadership institute per year;
k) Identification as partnership member;
l) Opportunity to assign junior faculty and senior graduate students as research interns and to post-doctoral positions in research partnership;

Associate Members: Available only to members of lesser developed economies (Annual contribution: $4,000)
a) Receipt of monthly summary of key events taking place in Asia Pacific Higher Education—provided by web-link;
b) Participation in selected webinars generated and conducted by research partnership staff;
c) Organization role and central participation in annual scholarly meeting of partnership members;
d) Participation in annual partnership annual meeting;
e) Receipt of bi-monthly occasional papers focused on issues of interest and concern to research partnership members;
f) Membership on governing council;
g) Selective participation in some research-focused senior seminars;
h) Participation in one higher education leadership institute per year;
i) Identification as research partnership member.

Affiliate Members: Available to limited number of quality assurance/accreditation bodies ($2,000)
a) Receipt of monthly summary of key events taking place in Asia Pacific Higher Education;
b) Invitation to annual meeting of partnership;
c) Receipt of bi-monthly occasional papers focused on issues of interest and concern to consortium members;
d) Participation in selected webinars and senior seminars generated and conducted by partnership staff.
